Saving Face Every Night

My nightly skincare routine is a transformative ritual that I live by. It's highly effective and will leave my skin refreshed, hydrated, and ready for overnight rejuvenation. I believe having a nightly routine with nourishing, restorative skincare staples, is vital in helping the skin in its rejuvenation process. And to optimize the process at maximum capacity, I always sleep in a pitch dark room at 68 degrees, to allow my body to fully function at recovering to its healthy state. Wearing an eye mask helps keep me asleep to avoid rejuvenation disruption.
How Does a Dark and Cool Room Maximize Skincare?
An undisturbed, dark environment facilitates cellular repair processes, which includes collagen production and immune response activation. Sleeping at cooler temperatures encourages deep sleep, which is critical for physical recovery and hormone regulation. All of these factors contribute to repairing the skin from the inside out. So with the combination of using the right products, this is maintaining a foundation to help promote healthy and youthful skin.
The Transformative Nightly Ritual
Step 1: Remove Makeup and Dirt with DearKlairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil
Using cleansing oil to remove make-up and dirt has been the most effective in cleaning my skin thoroughly. I pump a bit of the cleansing oil onto a cotton pad and gently massage it all over my face, removing all of the impurities. This melts away make-up, sunscreen, and excess oil without stripping my skin. Then I add a little water to emulsify the oil into a milky texture. I then rinse my skin just enough where it’s ready for a thorough cleanse.
Step 2: Double Cleanse with Neogen Green Tea Cleansing Stick
This is a great cleansing choice for combination skin. I like using this unique solid cleanser to do a thorough cleanse because it’s packed with 13 natural oils and real green tea leaves that gently cleanses, exfoliates and moisturizes. It washes away any access make-up, dirt or skincare products without stripping my skin. A small amount goes a long way, so I just apply quick dabs on each part of my face, then massage and rinse- it feels so clean!
Step 3: Exfoliate with Mandelic Acid 5% Skin prep Water
This exfoliating toner is perfect for sensitive skin. Mandelic acid, a type of AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), is derived from bitter almonds and is known for its ability to gently exfoliate the skin while maintaining hydration. It has improved my skin texture to become smoother without irritation and has faded my dark spots over time for a luminous complexion. I just dab a few drops onto a cotton pad and gently apply all over my face, letting it absorb before layering the following products.
Step 4: Tone with DearKlairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner
Once your skin is clean and exfoliated, I use this toner to hydrate, to calm and to replenish moisture back into the skin. It’s also free from fragrance and essential oils. I like to pour a bit into my palms, and then gently pat it onto my skin. It balances the skin's pH to an optimal level and preps it for better absorption for creams and serums. I love the way it cools my skin, making it feel really fresh.
Step 5: Repair with RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream
This tube is a powerhouse cream. It's a form of vitamin A, celebrated for its ability to boost collagen production and accelerate skin cell turnover. I use this as a spot treatment for my dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles. It works very well for me when I layer it with other products at night, so that it can work its magic during sleep. I’ve tested this product for a few months and saw dramatic results! My dark spots and fine lines were visibly lighter- I was impressed!
Step 6: Hydrate with APLB Retinol Vitamin C Vitamin E Ampoule Serum
Now, this step begins the layering of hydration. This serum works to refine skin texture, brighten and target fine lines while adding a boost of moisture. I like using this in conjunction with the RoC Retinol Cream since it can be drying because it has a stronger formula. So, the vitamin E in this serum helps restore moisture back into the skin. Retinol and vitamin C are known for their anti-aging and brightening effects. I use this at night only, to allow the ingredients to work their magic while I sleep, as both are sensitive to sunlight.
Step 7: Boost with COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
Next up is the slithering, snail serum. This product is rich in snail mucin, which may sound strange but it is incredibly hydrating, helps repair the skin and is smoothing. I like to apply one full pump, then rub it gently onto my face until it’s absorbed. The essence serum is lightweight yet deeply hydrating, making it ideal for all skin types. The slippery texture soothes the skin, I can feel the literal hydration.
Step 8: Moisturize with APLB Glutathione Niacinamide Facial Cream
Lock in all that hydration with this cream- it’s not too light and not too heavy. I apply a small amount, evenly across my face and neck. This seals in all the active ingredients and hydrators I’ve layered on. It has both glutathione and niacinamide to help brighten and even out skin tone while providing lasting moisture. I can feel everything working together creating a protective coating.
Step 9: Seal with RejuveNaturals Castor Oil
And finally to seal the deal, I use castor oil. Castor oil is a natural and versatile beauty remedy, it’s renowned for its rich composition of fatty acids, particularly ricinoleic acid. It helps to hydrate, creating a protective barrier to lock in all of the moisture I just applied from above. It’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can even promote a brighter, more even skin tone. It also heals irritated and wounded skin. A little goes a long way, so I apply half a drop immediately onto my face while the facial cream is still fresh. This helps to smoothly apply and evenly distribute the castor oil all over the face. This is such a steal because it also enhances lash and brow growth! With a host of skincare benefits, I NEVER leave this step out of any skincare routine.
It took a minute, but we made it to the end- the results are worth it! Let me know if you try this ritual.
