My Body Armor

It’s a simple phrase, one that can be cliche but holds so much truth, “We are What We Eat.”  I believe that every meal is an opportunity to nourish, protect and even heal ourselves. This resonates deeply with me because what we ultimately put into our bodies- has a profound impact on our lifespan.

I often think of food not just as fuel but as medicine.  I think about how each bite I take has the potential to energize me, support my immune system and promote healing from the inside out.  With this said, I am very thoughtful and selective of the foods that I consume.  I make time to research how foods will break down, process and contribute to my overall health.  It sounds like it's doing the most, but if we can spend time scrolling, there is no excuse for our health!

One of my daily rituals is a power smoothie that I always look forward to, I call it my "body armor."  This power smoothie is my everyday go-to- I live by it!  It’s packed with superfoods and ingredients that I’ve made certain to nourish, detoxify and energize.  I don’t ever skip a day without having it.


My Daily Power Smoothie Recipe

My schedule is always hectic, so to save time and make sure the process is quick and convenient;  I food-prep for two weeks in advance.  I put all of the powders and seeds in a small mason jar.  I also do the same for all of the fruits using reusable freezer pouches.  

Organic Coconut Water  

The perfect refreshing, hydrating base, packed with electrolytes to keep me balanced.  It’s a healthy alternative to having water alone.  I love it so much, I cannot live without it.

Organic Vegan Protein Powder  

A clean, plant-based protein source to fuel my muscles, to keep me strong and energized.  It’s very light and doesn’t leave a chalky after-taste.

Organic Spirulina Powder  

A blue-green algae that’s one of the most nutrient-dense foods that adds a burst of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.  It’s another powerhouse for the body.

Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder 

Matcha is magic!  It's rich in antioxidants, boosts energy and focus, supports weight loss, detoxifies with chlorophyll, enhances skin health and improves mood.   

Organic Chia Seeds & Organic Flax Seeds Meal  

Tiny but mighty! They’re loaded with omega-3s, fiber and antioxidants to support digestion and brain health.  These seeds are so easy to add literally to everything.

RecoveryBits Organic Chlorella Tablets  

Nature’s detoxifier, chlorella helps flush out the toxins and boosts recovery.  I usually take this with smoothies or foods because your fingers and teeth can get green if taken alone.  It doesn’t stain or anything like that, but the powdery substance can get messy.  I usually include this in the smoothie 3 times a week only because of its powerful impact.

Erewhon Sea Moss Gel

A nutrient powerhouse with 92 of the 102 essential minerals our bodies need.  It’s very light and doesn’t really have a taste, so it mixes well with any smoothie.

365 Baby Spinach

For a daily dose to boost my iron, magnesium, and overall vitality.  It’s one of the most powerful greens, and it’s also my favorite.  I tend to add this in all of my smoothies.

Organic Ginger Root

A zesty root to reduce inflammation and support digestion.  Its healing properties are a daily must-have in smoothies, food and even eating it on its own.

Organic Pineapple, Wild Blueberries, Blackberries, & Raspberries

A mix of fruits rich in vitamins, antioxidants and natural sweetness.  I sometimes alternate between pineapple and mango but never leave out the berries.  Tropical fruits are my favorite and work well with this smoothie.

 

Recipe Details

Since I'm always on the go, I make my smoothie in a 20oz. Hydroflask for convenience.  With this recipe, you'll have just a little more than enough to fill the entire flask.  I fill the blender in this numerical order for efficiency as follows:

1.  Organic Coconut Water  2 cups (1 regular can)

2.  NorCal Organic Pea Protein  2 scoops

3.  Organic Spirulina Powder  1 tsp.

4.  Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder  1 tsp.

5.  Organic Chia Seeds & Organic Flax Seeds Meal  1 serving of chia seeds, 1  serving of flax seeds

6.  RecoveryBits Organic Chlorella Tablets  10 tablets

7.  Erewhon Sea Moss Gel  2 tbsp.

8.  365 Baby Spinach  1 cup

9.  Organic Ginger Root  1/2 tsp.

10.  Organic Pineapple, Wild Blueberries, Blackberries, & Raspberries  1 cup of pineapples, 1 cup of mixed berries 

 

It’s More Than Just Food

This smoothie isn’t just food—it’s my daily self-care in a glass, or I should say a Hydroflask.  It’s an opportunity to help elongate my lifespan by giving it the proper fuel, support and healing my body requires.  It's making an investment in my health and its future. It’s not about perfection or never indulging- because who doesn't love indulging?!  It’s about finding balance and giving my body what it needs to function at its highest potential.  This approach has taught me to be disciplined in listening to my body.  Some days, I need more greens. Other days, I crave the sweetness of fruits.  The beauty about this smoothie is that you can make it adaptable to whatever your body is calling for.
